Errol Spence Believes Terence Crawford Was Dishonest in Negotiations

Unified welterweight champion Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr (28-0, 22KO) believes rival champion Terence “Bud” Crawford (39-0, 30KO) was being dishonest during their fight negotiations.

THE BACKSTORY

On October 20, the boxing world got kicked in the gut after learning the undisputed showdown was called off. Later, the same day, fans’ anger grew even more after hearing that Crawford secured another fight with fringe contender David Avanesyan.

Crawford took to social media to explain what happened and revealed Al Haymon turned down the idea of two outside offers for $25 million for both him and Spence. Furthermore, he admitted to communicating with the streaming app BLK Prime around the same time as the undisputed negotiations with Haymon. This did not go well as several fans blamed the WBO champion even more for things failing apart. Fans believed Crawford wanted to pick up an easy payday after news dropped of a guaranteed $10 million to fight Avanesyan.

SPENCE BELIEVES CRAWFORD WAS NOT BEING FULLY HONEST

While attending Frank Martin’s victory over Michel Rivera, Spence gave an intermission interview to express his thoughts on the undisputed debacle and Crawford’s claim of doing everything possible to make the fight happen.

“If he did everything that he could to make the fight happen, then the fight would have happened . . . Unfortunately, it didn’t, and he went about it the wrong way. If he would have just been on the up and up, been like, ‘hey, I’ve been talking to these guys. I’m fighting this guy for $10 million, it’s an easy fight. I want to make this money right quick, and I’ll be right back.’”

“The way he went about and tried to blame my side for messing up the negotiations, I feel like that wasn’t right at all . . . it’s the fight I really want, and hopefully, we can make that fight next year.”
