Spence Believes Frank Martin Will Prove a Class Above Tank Davis
As his June 15 dance date with WBA lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis (Abdul Wahid) (29-0, 27 KO’s) looms ever closer, many believe that contender Frank “The Ghost” Martin (18-0, 12 KO’s) has an excellent shot at victory. Naturally, his promoter, Errol Spence Jr of Man Down Promotions, has gone a step further and predicted a whitewash come fight night.
“I see him getting his hand raised, I feel like he is the most skilled, talented fighter that Tank ever fought. It’s one of those that he can’t take those early rounds off and feel like he’s going to come in the seventh and eighth round and hope for a knockout. I feel like Frank is going to dominate him – first through the twelfth round. I mean Tank is going to put up a fight. You know, he is a great fighter, but I feel like Frank is definitely going to take it!”
TIMES REVEALS ALL!
If putting his bias to the side for a second, there is no denying that Spence has a point. Provided that Martin lives up to the lofty attributes Spence has bestowed upon him, Tank will not be able to safely give away rounds while collecting data.
Yet, there is no denying that Davis has definitely banked, and successfully so, on his power bailing him out of a points deficit. This modus operandi will not serve him well whatsoever, if Martin is able to rival his in-ring acumen. On the flip side however, if Tank realizes that The Ghost is the rough customer that Spence has billed him to be, this could guarantee fireworks.
Clearly, with a 93% knockout ratio, Wahid is not bashful about pursuing the stoppage. Armed with this vicious streak, and a great deal of his own skill, it should not be a surprise to see Davis committing to his power very early in this standoff. In either case, June 7 should supply one fun and much talked-about prizefight.
