Fans And Fighters Come Together To Applaud Errol Spence Jr
Unified IBF/WBC World Welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr (27-0, 21 KOs) is once again the toast of the boxing world following his December 5 victory over former world junior welterweight and welterweight champion Danny Garcia (36-3, 21 KOs). Having been out of action for over a year due to injuries from an October 2019 car crash, the southpaw known as “The Truth” showed he is still a beast in the ring and one of the best Pound-4-Pound boxers in the world.
It was the kind of performance that has some observers once again claiming he is the man at 147 pounds. Praise and adulation have been pouring in from fans and contemporaries in the aftermath of his win.
WHAT COMES NEXT?
The question now is, what is upcoming for the 30-year-old from Denton, Texas? A fight against WBO World Welterweight champion Terence Crawford (37-0, 28 KOs) is what fans crave the most. However, that mouthwatering showdown will not happen anytime soon.
After his win over Garcia, Spence told the media he is not thinking about who or what is next. Instead, he wants to enjoy some time with his family and his newly purchased ranch.
Despite his claims of wanting to take a break, there is still a clamoring for him to fight the likes of Crawford, WBO World Welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (62-7-2, 39 KOs), and former unified WBA/WBC World Welterweight champion Keith Thurman (29-1, 22 KOs).
Universally, there is a general joy in the boxing community that Errol Spence Jr is healthy and fighting again. After a year that has been completely bananas for him and the sport at large, the return of Spence to the ring is something that all lovers of The Sweet Science should come together and celebrate.
