Errol Spence Wants Ryan Garcia to Face True Accountability
Over the last few months, polarizing junior welterweight fighter “King Ry” Ryan Garcia (25-1, 20 KO’s) has stunned the world, stolen boxing center stage and called out a plethora of would-be opponents. One such adversary is former unified 147-pound champion Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr. (28-1, 22 KO’s). Instead of agreeing to meet him on the field of battle however, Spence derided his heart and called for the masses to stop coddling King Ry.
WELCOME TO BIZARRO LAND!
In his call to action, The Truth is making reference to when many believed Garcia quit in his bout with Abdul “Tank” Wahid (Gervonta Davis). At the end, a pair of recent drug tests that Garcia failed. Oddly enough, in the wake of his upset win over Devin Haney, when this revelation became public knowledge, Garcia was met with a tidal wave of warm, loving support. Rather than vilify him as a dangerous underhanded criminal, all potential excuses, flimsy rationales and every glorified prayer has been offered up for why King Ry failed two separate drug exams.
It has been an intriguing phenomenon to watch how many fans and supporters have come out the woodwork defending Garcia. Unsurprisingly, after coming across The Truth’s words, King Ry immediately began hitting back at Spence via social media. Despite this public rancor and the previous call-outs, it’s highly unlikely that a Spence versus Garcia prizefight materializes out of this crabby discourse.
While no scrap is likely to become a reality, the attention and focus on King Ry’s impending B-samples will remain at an all time high. Which means that the scrutiny of the results will be just as stringent. From this standpoint, it will be telling to see what the final verdict is and what will be Garcia’s punishment if his B-samples prove to be dirty once again? It will also be engrossing to see if his die hard cluster of fans remain loyal and trusting if more failed results come marching in.
