Stephen Fulton Could Be On The Verge Of A Possible Title Shot
Former unified super bantamweight champion Stephen “Cool Boy Steph” Fulton (21-1, 8KO) could find himself fighting for the WBA featherweight title. The question is, who would he face if the title becomes vacant will it be Mirco Cuello or Victor Morales?
HAS A DOOR OPENED FOR A TITLE SHOT?
After defeating number one-ranked Otabek Kholmatov by sensational knockout in the final round, number two-rated Raymond Ford announced that he was leaving the division. When the organization reshuffles the deck, Cool Boy Steph jumps from number three to the number one slot.
It puts the Philadelphian first in line to fight for the title once it is officially relinquished. In his last outing, he suffered a knockout defeat at the hands of the undisputed Super Bantamweight champion Naoya Inoue in July 2023. He has since vowed to return stronger in hopes of featherweight glory.
POSSIBLE FUTURE OPPONENTS
Cuello (13-0, 11KO) is ranked #4 and holds the WBA International title. He could be placed in the #2 spot once the rankings are readjusted. The Argentinian had a decent amateur resume, winning the Bronze medal in the 2018 Youth Olympic Games as a bantamweight. He is unknown to the boxing public because most of his career was fought outside the United States.
Morales (19-0-1, 9KO) is more known to the boxing world and has shared the ring in the amateur ranks with some well-known names. He fought champions such as Devin Haney, and Shakur Stevenson, along with Vergil Ortis Jr, Duke Regan, and Keyshawn Davis.
In his last outing, the 26-year-old turned in a statement-making stoppage over veteran Diego De La Hoya. Currently holding the #5 slot, Morales could see a huge bump in the ranking to the #3 position.
The featherweight division is wide open for anyone to take it over, and it could start with crowning a new champion.
