Steve Nelson Stops DeAndre Ware to Stay Undefeated
Following six rounds of lively action, super middleweight Steve “So Cold” Nelson (17-0, 14 KO’s) defeated DeAndre “Axeman” Ware (13-3-2, 8 KO’s) with a dominate TKO victory.
Right from the outset, Nelson got behind his jab and took a steady and methodical fight straight to Ware. Despite dictating the pace of the exchanges, So Cold suffered a cut to his left eye as the result of an accidental head-butt in the second round.
Although the cut would bleed steadily, he performed as if he was oblivious to the wound.
GOING THROUGH ADVERSITY
Responding well to the urgency of the moment, the Nebraskan began landing consistent heavy shots in the third and fourth periods. Unfortunately for Nelson a second accidental head-butt to the same left eye opened up a new, and very nasty, cut directly on his eyelid.
The gaping wound did bother him a great deal. Despite the apparent severity of the injury, Nelson fought to the bell granting his corner time to treat the cut.
Now, under new pressure, the undefeated contender came out in the sixth round fighting with a brand new fire. His intensity was well served. Nelson opened the period with a series of left hooks that obviously were wilting Ware.
Rather than simply head hunt, he displayed an impressive in-ring IQ by digging a number of impressive shots to the gut.
Yet, it was another crunching left hook to the head that wobbled Ware and forced him to retreat to the ropes. Unable to sufficiently defend himself, referee Jay Nady was compelled to waive off the contest.
Although he certainly would have preferred to go uncut, this was a good progression fight for Nelson who showed solid grit and calmness in adversity.
He claims to be ready for the top fighters at super middleweight. He specifically named former WBC champ David Benavidez as an opponent he would like to fight soon!
