Shakur Stevenson Respects the Heart of Frank Martin

While a fight date has yet to be announced, lightweight boxers Frank “The Ghost” Martin (18-0, 12 KO’s) and “Fearless” Shakur Stevenson (20-0, 19 KO’s) have agreed to fight. Ahead of this duel, two-division champion Shakur Stevenson is being viewed as the substantial favorite. With this being said though, Fearless does harbor great respect and appreciation for Martin. In a brief interview with EsNews, Stevenson gave his honest take of his upcoming showdown.

“You’ve got to give him his respect, I give him his respect. A lot of people don’t want to fight me, a lot of people are not signing up to fight me. But he said, ‘yes,’ so definitely let’s see what he brings to the table.”

THE ACID TEST

Ironically, as he heads into the biggest fight of his career, Martin is coming off arguably the shabbiest of his professional bouts. In that last fight, against Artem Harutyunyan, it took The Ghost quite a few rounds to figure out and ultimately dominate the Armenian fighter as most thought he would easily do. This outing was enough to get some questioning whether he should be in the position he is.

Ranked #3 (WBA), #4 (WBC), #6 (IBF) and #6 (WBO), Frank Martin lurks just one fight away from challenging for any of the four titles. This is the same, if not better, for Stevenson who is ranked #1 (WBO), #2 (WBC), #5 (IBF0 and #7 (WBA). So beyond their formidable pride, both pugilists will shed sweat and blood to defend their hard earned positions in the sport and division. Given the skill of each, this should be one memorable and entertaining scrap.

First, let’s get an official fight date and then we can busy ourselves speculating on the outcome of the dustup. So, in the meantime, stay stuck to 3Kings Boxing for all the latest news, angles and boxing explanations that you’re craving for!
