Shakur Stevenson Says the Odds for Losing to Oscar Valdez Peaked at 126
With less than three weeks to go until the huge 130-pound unification showdown between unbeaten two-division world champions Shakur “Fearless” Stevenson (17-0, 9KOs) and Oscar Valdez (30-0, 23KOs), Fearless is supremely confident he will handle Valdez with ease.
While fielding questions from the media, Stevenson said he feels Valdez’s best chance at beating him was at featherweight (126 pounds).
“I feel like his best chance was to catch me at 126. I feel like now I’m at 130, I’m bigger, I’m stronger, I’m a lot better than what I used to be, and he’s in for it come April 30.”
As most know, both fighters were seemingly on a collision course to fight as featherweights when Valdez was the WBO champion and Stevenson was named his mandatory. However, Valdez would vacate the belt and move up to junior lightweight to take on Miguel Berchelt for the WBC title.
The fact is, Stevenson has gotten better and stronger. Primarily known as a defensive fighter, his offensive game has started to grow, evident by his beat down of Herring, from whom he took the WBO title in October of 2021. Now that the fight is merely weeks away, Stevenson gets his long-awaited shot at Valdez to prove he’s the superior fighter.
