Team Andy Ruiz Will Pursue Deontay Wilder Bout If They Defeat Luis Ortiz

Two weeks before facing former WBC title challenger Luis Ortiz, the main objective for Andy “The Destoryer” Ruiz (34-2, 22KO) is to fight former WBC champion Deontay “The Bronze Bomber” Wilder. This according to his father and manager Andres Ruiz, because he thinks that the current champions are not willing to fight with his son.

“First, we want to win the fight with Luis Ortiz”, Andres Ruiz told IZQUIERDAZO. “Then, we will see what happens, but our ultimate objective is a fight with Deontay Wilder.

“If everything goes as planned with Ortiz, we will go for Wilder. And we want that fight to be in May 2023”.

With the WBC waiting for an official confirmation of Tyson Fury’s retirement, they will sanction the fight between Ortiz and Ruiz as an elimination bout to face the heavyweight champion.

“It is en eliminatory”, Ruiz pointed out. “Whoever wins, between Andy and King Kong, will get the chance to fight for the WBC belt”.

But Andres Ruiz doesn’t think that a fight with Fury is possible in the near future if the British champion decides to remain active in boxing, because Tyson would look for the undisputed title against the winner of the Joshua and Usyk fight.

“I believe that they [Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua] consider Andy to be a threat”, Andres Ruiz said. “But, besides that, they will want to fight Fury. That’s their aspiration. That’s where the money is. They want a fight that the British people have asked for, especially Fury versus Joshua.”
