Tim Tszyu Believes Further Delays From Jermell Charlo Are Unnecessary
For the last couple of years, Australian import and WBO Interim super welterweight champion Tim “The Soul Taker” Tszyu (22-0, 16 KO’s) has been making noise stateside. After leaving his homeland, Tszyu traveled to Minneapolis to beat Terrell Gausha and collect the Interim WBO super welterweight title. Armed with the title, The Soul Taker has been boisterous and consistent in his seeking a fight with undisputed super welterweight champion Jermell “Iron Man” Charlo (32-0, 22 KO’s).
The two appeared to finally be on a collision course when Charlo suddenly pulled out of the match. Iron Man would go on to cite a hand injury as the cause of the withdrawal. Rather than waiting indefinitely on Charlo, Tszyu earned some kudos for contracting a voluntary match with the crafty Tony Harrison. After stopping Harrison in the ninth, The Soul Taker signed to fight Carlos Ocampo. Ocampo and Tszyu will square off this June 17.

Ahead of their duel, Tszyu is likely not overlooking Ocampo, yet he still has a firm eye on Charlo. While he has great respect for Iron Man, and doesn’t doubt the initial injury, the Australian is wondering when he will be ready to rock-and-roll again.
“My opinion keeps changing, I think there was an injury. In my honest opinion, I think there was an injury or he wouldn’t have backed out. Us fighters, we’ve got this mentality – we don’t fear no one, no matter what. You can put King Kong in front of us, that’s just how we are, that’s just how fighters think. I think he is like that as well, he’s not going to back away from a challenge.”
“I think it’s taking longer than it should be, that’s my honest opinion. By him posting all that stuff with him, partying that doesn’t help either. It’s frustrating me as a fighter. We want to get a fight along and these guys are out in the clubs. He’s not taking it seriously, so we’re at different points in our life and career.”
