Yoenis Tellez TKO’s Johan Gonzalez for the Win
Following a consistent and calculated performance, super welterweight fighter Yoenis Tellez (9-0, 7 KO’s) defeated Johan “The Chelo Manotes” Gonzalez (35-4, 34 KO’s) by way seventh round TKO.
To open the fight, Tellez did very little outside cover-up, jab infrequently and move backwards. This granted Gonzalez free reign to move forward and throw his offense with impunity. The momentum would shift greatly in the third when Tellez finally came alive and began letting his hands go.
The tide increased in the fourth when Tellez increased his volume more and really began hammering Gonzalez’s body with a steady ferocity. Things went from bad to worse for Gonzalez when a crisp straight right hand jellied his legs and put him on the canvas in the sixth. The Chelo Manotes would find his feet and make it out the period.
Yet, in the seventh, Gonzalez was put on the ground two more times. On the second occasion however, referee Emil Lambardi had seen enough and called a halt to the action.
