Yoshiki Takei Stops an Overmatched Yuttapong Tongdee
After going the distance in his previous two fights, reigning WBO bantamweight champion Yoshiki Takei ended matters early at BUNTAI in Yokohama, Japan, with a first-round stoppage over Thailand’s Yuttapong Tongdee.
If you went away to get something in the fridge, you probably missed this destruction from Takei (11-0, 9 KOs). Thirty seconds into the opening salvo, he put Tongdee (15-1, 9 KOs) down on the seat of his pants with a straight left hand. From there, the champion went into pure attack mode, knocking the Thai fighter down two more times before the referee wisely called a halt to the contest.
This win could pave the way for big fights at 118, a division currently dominated by Japanese fighters. During the post-fight interview, Takei called for a match with countryman Seiya Tsutsumi, who the WBA recently named as their champion in recess. If Takei is unable to secure a fight with Tsutsumi, the 28-year-old could be in line to face the winner of the June 8 bantamweight unification fight between WBC belt-holder Junto Nakatani and IBF champion Ryosuke Nishida.
