Alen Babic finally stops Mark Bennett after five hard rounds
Croatian heavyweight Alen “The Savage” Babic (7-0, 7ko) will be looking to keep his perfect knockout streak going against relatively unknown Mark “Bad News” Bennett (7-1, 1ko).
Bennett could have taken on more than he can handle in this upcoming fight. In fairness, his knockout percentage of 12.5% can be deceiving, as he has knocked down his opponents but never finished them. Moreover, he is coming off a defeat to a familiar name on the fight card in Nick Webb.
Babic fights just as the nickname says, like a savage. His goal is to jump on you, get in your chest, and look to land hard, powerful punches. The Croatian fighter has gained notoriety as a sparring partner for top heavyweight contender Dillian “The Body Snatcher” Whyte, who now manages Babic.
ROCK’EM SOCK’EM ROBOT
The fight started with Babic surprisingly bouncing around on his toes and pumping the jab. It quickly broke down once both men got into close quarters, and it was bombs away. Bennett’s chin was being tested as Babic was landing hard left and right hooks, coupled with several straight right-hands.
Bennett would fight back, landing a few good right-hands, but he was hurt twice from two straight right-hands. Bennet lost his mouthpiece twice which stopped the action in the first round. Shockingly, the fight continued and Babic was relentless applying pressure using the jab and landing the right uppercut.
The fight turned into the granite chin of Bennett against the relentless punching power of Babic. As the fight went on, it was the same thing; Babic landing brutal, jaw-dropping punches. Just when it looked like the referee would stop the fight, Bad News would respond with a one hard, left hook counter.
THE CORNER FINALLY STEPPED IN
Fans watching this from home probably were calling for the corner to eventually step in and save their fighter from himself. The Savage’s motor was on full display. He threw punches like a video game on cheat mode, landing hard body shots and crisp, on the button uppercuts.
As round five was coming to a close, Babic had his opponent in the corner, out on his feet, and he was unloading everything in the arsenal. Bennett, refusing to go down, fired back a few arm punches. However, it was clear his tank was empty and the corner, realizing this, informed the referee the fight was over. The Savage keeps his undefeated knockout streak intact.
It was a very entertaining fight. However, it is time for Babic to step it up. We can see the boxing skills are there, and it would be interesting to see what he can do against a more seasoned veteran.
