Benavidez Responds to Accusations of Dirty Tactics in Zurdo Fight

Two-divisional champion “El Monstruo” David Benavidez has to respond to allegations of being a dirty fighter, rather than enjoying the biggest win of his career, which is shameful. The internet has been flooded with a video of him landing an elbow, which has gone viral. Several fans inside the boxing community feel it’s the only reason for his victory and should be investigated.

Benavidez’s destruction of former unified cruiserweight champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez skyrocketed him into superstar status. However, it was short-lived as the video that circulated sparked heavy, unrealistic controversy. Prior to the elbow landing in the sixth round, El Monstruo battered Ramirez with repeated hard shots throughout the fight.

ADDRESSING THE ACCUSATION

Aware that he is being called a dirty fighter, Benavidez addressed the situation on The Ariel Helwani Show.

“I want to bring up another point. I’m kind of a little bit disappointed that people think I’m a dirty fighter. I’ve never been a dirty fighter in my life. Sometimes when you’re throwing combinations, that shit happens. I don’t use dirty tactics.”

“That elbow I hit him with was completely unintentional…sometimes that happens. But, like I said, I’m not a dirty fighter. I’ve never been a dirty fighter, and I never will be a dirty fighter…I didn’t do that intentionally.”

In order for anyone to have seen that, especially considering Benavidez throws rapid-fire punches, has an agenda. The only way to notice he hit Ramirez with an elbow is to slow down the punches being thrown on video.

This is ridiculous and is reminiscent of the slow-mo video that floated around proving Floyd Mayweather’s punches didn’t land against Manny Pacquiao back in 2015. It’s good Benavidez addressed the situation, but anyone pushing this narrative should be unceremoniously dismissed.
