Are We Witnessing the Beginning of the End For Keith Thurman?

Did he do the right thing by releasing his belt?

As previously reported by 3kingsboxing.com, Keith Thurman has vacated the WBC title. This is coming off news of a hand injury that has further delayed his return.

Given the hand injury, Thurman will still be rehabbing his previous elbow injury that has sidlined him since defeating Danny Garcia last year. In light of this, the WBC has ordered Shawn Porter (28-2-1, 17 KO’s) and Garcia (34-1, 20 KO’s) to fight for the now vacant title.

The WBC has also stated that Thurman will be given a chance to regain his title once he returns.

When you consider he has not defended the title after winning it over a year ago; only to vacate it, then be told he would have an immediate opportunity to regain it, one could only question: “Did he do the right thing by releasing his belt?”

At age 29, he could be mentally and physically done. Going back to the infamous car crash just weeks before the Shawn Porter fight, it seems Thurman can’t stay healthy enough to compete more than once per year.

Maybe he got too comfortable during the layoff? Or perhaps the hunger is no longer there.

Is there a possibility the injuries could be the start of his regression?

Until he returns, we won’t know but you can’t help but wonder could this be the beginning of the end?
