Sunny Edwards and Bam Rodriguez Set to Meet In a Flyweight Unification
WBO flyweight champion Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez (18-0, 11 KOs) and IBF champion Sunny “Showtime” Edwards (20-0, 4 KOs) will meet in a high-stakes unification clash later this year. A fight between these two has been talked about for awhile now, with both fighters calling each other out. Edwards, who defended his IBF title against Andres Campos, called Rodriguez out immediately after.
Showtime recently stated that he would negotiate a 50-50 deal with Rodriguez himself. Conversely, Rodriguez has shown just as much interest in making the fight happen. He called Edwards out in April after his win over Christian Hernandez Gonzalez.
Both of these fighters are unbeaten and have fan-friendly styles. Edwards, a light hitter, has exceptional hand speed and footwork. He’s also shown to be more than willing to mix it up on the inside. Bam applies intelligent pressure with a good right jab, and is a terrific body puncher. He also has the ability to cut off the ring.
This unification fight is huge for the flyweight division and will go a long way in determining the best guy at 112. 3kingsboxing.com will bring you updates once a date and location for the fight are announced.
