Leading up to the fight, it was known that this was a do-or-die situation for the former British champion. The latter part of his career was plagued with injuries and a long layoff that saw possible ring return fights cancelled.

Quigg’s first career defeat came at the hands of fellow countryman, and former IBF champion Carl “The Jackal” Frampton in 2016. It was in this unification bout the former WBA champion suffered a jaw injury also. Furthermore, it would be two years before another title opportunity would arise.

The former champion moved up in weight and climbed the ranks only to lose a second bid for a world title against WBO Featherweight champion Oscar Valdez back in 2018. The 31-year-old British boxer would bounce back with a knockout victory over Mario Briones. However, have injuries and inactivity would keep him out of the ring for another two years.

Quigg walks away from the sport with a record of 35-3-2 and in good health. He thanked promoter Eddie Hearn and the fans in a heartfelt farewell post on Instagram. We here at 3kingsboxing wish the former champion the best life has to offer after boxing.
