Boots Ennis Positioned to Meet Jesus Ramos at 154 This Year
WBA “Super” welterweight champion Jaron “Boots” Ennis’ move to junior middleweight is inevitable. After dropping the welterweight IBF title, Boots could face top junior middleweight contender Jesus “El Mono” Ramos for the vacant WBA title.
It’s no secret that Ennis has been planning to seek glory in the talent-rich junior middleweight division. When surveying the landscape, there are several good fights. But the Philadelphian wants an immediate title shot, and the WBA route seems to be the best option.
WBA junior middleweight champion Terence “Bud” Crawford is facing undisputed super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in September. Several pundits believe Bud will not be returning to 154. This opens the door for Ennis to walk into a fight for the vacant title.
The WBA Interim champion, Yoenis Tellez, may be ordered to face number-one contender Abass Baraou. This leaves El Mono free to fight Ennis. 3KingsBoxing has learned Ramos wants to return to the ring in October or November.
Things are starting to heat up in the junior middleweight division, and the addition of Ennis only adds to the flames.
