Andrew Cain Grits Out Tough Win Over Alejandro Gonzalez
In his latest tour of duty, bantamweight fighter Andrew Cain (15-1, 13 KO’s) picked up a big ninth-round TKO win over Alejandro Gonzalez (19-7-3, 11 KO’s). To begin, Cain was able to control most of the rounds with calm, nifty boxing. At about rounds five and six however, the thumping body work of Gonzalez began taking an effect on Cain.
In fact, Cain was dropped to his knees after being belted in the rib cage and had to be saved by the bell. Seemingly on his last leg, the UK native came roaring out of his corner and hurt and dropped Gonzalez himself. Seeing his quickly deteriorating condition, referee Mark Bates called a halt to the action.
This was a great win for the gritty fighter who entered the match ranked #3 (WBC), #5 (WBO, IBF), and #15 (WBA). Along with the victory, Cain won the final WBC bantamweight title eliminator. At the moment, that title is vacant. Therefore, it will be interesting to see how the sanctioning body resolves this current situation. Until then, stay tuned to 3King Boxing for all things related to boxing!
