Chantelle Cameron Preparing to Make A Statement Against Katie Taylor

Undisputed women’s junior welterweight champion Chantelle Cameron (17-0, 8 KOs) can’t hide her excitement about the May 20 showdown with undisputed lightweight champion Katie Taylor (22-0, 6 KOs) in Dublin, Ireland. For Cameron, it’s her chance to prove that she’s the best of the best.

READY FOR THE MOMENT

The matchup was announced during a Matchroom-promoted event headlined by Diego Pacheco’s fourth-round stoppage win over Jack Cullen, where Cameron was in attendance. During an event press conference, the undisputed 140-pound champion told the boxing media she’s not overawed by fighting someone of Taylor’s stature.

“I’m a born fighter, and to me, it’s not about the occasion. At the end of the day, I don’t know how to lose, and I come in there to win, and all that I’m focused on is winning. So the occasion, who I’m boxing, it goes out the window. As soon as that bell goes, I’m there to win.”

Cameron vs Taylor is the result of some unfortunate circumstances. Taylor was to fight a rematch with reigning undisputed featherweight title-holder Amanda Serrano. However, Serrano pulled out due to injury. Cameron offered herself as a substitute opponent. After the lightweight champion said she wanted to fight Cameron, negotiations went swiftly.

CAMERON HAS ONE THING ON HER MIND

The fight is occurring in the home country of the lightweight champ, but Cameron is unfazed. Her only concern is handling her business.

“I’m going in there to dominate. I’m going in there to show that I’m the bigger girl. I got the strength, I got the power, I can box.

We got a great game plan, and I’m going to stick to that. I’m very confident. I know what I’m going to do to deliver.”

It’s a contest that’s creating plenty of buzz among boxing enthusiasts. This battle of undefeated and undisputed champions comes with high hopes it will live up to the hype and be one of the best fights of this year.
