Luke Campbell excited to challenge Ryan Garcia

Ahead of his next bout with lightweight contender Ryan “KingRy” Garcia (20-0, 17 KO’s), UK prizefighter Luke Campbell (20-3, 16 KO’s) is being generally regarded as the notable favorite. This is due to being in the professional ranks longer and facing the more challenging competition.

In fact, in his last outing versus WBA super and WBO world featherweight champion Vasiliy “Hi-Tech” Lomachenko (14-1, 10 KO’s), Campbell gave him quite a tough time. This was impressive because Hi-Tech is widely regarded as the pound-for-pound best active fighter today. Even though he did not prevail, the UK boxer definitely added more credibility to his name. Nevertheless, Campbell is not letting any of that get to his head.

TIME TO SHOW AND PROVE

As he told Boxing Social, not only is he not looking past Garcia, he is truly eager to get in the ring with the social media sensation.

“Yeah, I am very excited about this one! It’s a big fight, big platform and I am just really excited for this opportunity to showcase my skills…obviously he has showcased what he’s got so far against the level of opponents that he’s been in with. And he shows that he’s got power, he’s got skill but its hard to judge from what he’s been in with.”

“It’s great he accepted this challenge, now I can give him a good beating!”

TIME AWAY

At the moment, it has been one solid year since Campbell’s competitive dust-up with Lomachenko. For some, the extended time away from the ring is enough to begin worrying about the effects of potential ring-rust. Luckily the UK bruiser does not think it will be an issue.

“It’s obviously been a while by the time that I get back in the ring, but I’ve still been in the gym all the way through. And we’ve had two, nearly four training camps now of actually preparing for a fight and then obviously not happening.”

“Obviously, we had lockdown which caused one of them and then we had one at the end of the year was going to go for in America. But the WBC world title fight came up instead, so we chose that route. So I’ve been active and constantly being active in the gym and sparring and stuff like that. So I am in a fantastic place!”
