Jermall Charlo Says He Will Outbox Dmitry Bivol!

These days, Super WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol (21-0, 11 KO’s) is one of the hottest names in the sport. He first captured the ‘regular’ WBA title in 2017 and made five successful title defenses before upgrading to the Super WBA title. Since taking possession of the Super WBA strap, Bivol has made three successful defenses. Currently he is fresh off a splendid win over the previously undefeated Gilberto Ramirez, which was preceded by his extremely high-profile win over Canelo Alvarez. Now, it seems that WBC middleweight champion Jermall “Hit Man” Charlo (32-0, 22 KO’s) wants a piece of the Kyrgyz fighter.

The two actually ran into one another while attending the recent Prograis versus Zepeda dustup. Once face to face, Charlo directly asked Bivol if he was willing to fight. According to Hit Man, as he told EsNews, he was!

“Bivol wants some smoke, I got him! I told him I’d do it! I want Bivol! I’m going to out jab him, I’m going to beat him up! I’m going to show Canelo what to do!”

NOT SO FAST!

On the one hand, it would be a very good look for Charlo to snag the fight with Bivol. The larger of the Charlo twins has been under fire for some time due to his tepid level of opposition. Even worse, Hit Man has been inactive for about a year and a half. Meanwhile, in comparison, his brother Jermell “Iron Man” Charlo has achieved undisputed status at super welterweight. Therefore, if Jermall could pen a fight with Bivol, it would be the equivalent of a Get Out of Jail Free card.

While this would be fantastic news for Charlo, and a solid fight in and of itself, Charlo versus Bivol happening any time soon is not very probable. For one, Bivol has every intention of fighting WBC, WBO and IBF light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev for undisputed status. Without question, that would take precedent. At the same time however, Beterbiev is currently injured which leaves the time frame of the undisputed fight shrouded in uncertainty.

If Beterbiev was not available, then Charlo would have a new life. Yet again, undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez is under tremendous pressure to rerun his fight with Bivol. Provided that Canelo wants to collide with Bivol next, and presses the matter, he’d likely get precedent over Charlo. Then again, in this zany sport, there is no telling what will happen next. So, for the time being, we’ll sit back and wait to see what develops next. In any event, 3Kings Boxing will be here to report the news.
