De La Hoya Receives Official Contract For Davis vs Garcia
The finalization process for the proposed grudge match between WBA Regular lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis (28-0, 26 KOs) and Ryan “KingRy” Garcia (23-0, 19 KOs) are underway! An official contract has been received by Garcia’s promoter, Oscar De La Hoya and it seems there is only minute details to iron out.
3KingsBoxing previously reported that De La Hoya was increasingly frustrated with Team Davis. First, he set a January 16 deadline to receive a contract from Davis, or else he was moving in another direction. Then De La Hoya went on to diss PBC, who Davis happens to fight for.
THE TIDE HAS TURNED
Tank is coming off a ninth-round stoppage over reigning WBA junior lightweight Super champion Hector Luis Garcia on January 7. Following that win, *Davis said his sole focus is starting to prepare for KingRy.
Over the last three years, the lightweight champ and KingRy have insulted each other numerous times. There has been much talk of them fighting, but *negotiations didn’t become serious until October 2022.
Ultimately, you have two fighters who are mainstream attractions and two of the more publicized and talked-about fighters in the sport. Davis vs Garcia would attract the attention of the mainstream sports crowd.
De La Hoya getting what he demanded should be considered nothing but good news. With this latest development, optimism grows as a deal is imminent. Stay tuned to 3KingsBoxing.com as we will continue to monitor and provide further updates.
