Carl Frampton’s Mashed Mitts
Well it would seem that Carl “The Jackal” Frampton’s (27-2, 15 KO’s) dominant win over Tyler “The Golden Child” McCreary (16-1-1, 7 KO’s) was not as clean as it initially looked. Following their November 30 prizefight it was discovered that Frampton suffered injuries to both of his hands.
FRAMPTON’S PUNISHED PAWS
Back in August, Frampton was forced to withdraw from his bout with Emmanuel Dominguez due to hand injury. Broken hands in boxing are quite normal and are nothing really to raise the eyebrows about it. However, the Jackal obtained his broken hand when a large pillar in a hotel lobby toppled over and smashed his left money maker.
With this prior knowledge, it’s not overly surprising to learn that Frampton injured his hand in the McCreary dust-up. After being ambushed by the pillar, the Jackal was left with a fracture in the fifth metacarpal in his left hand. This same injury was reactivated in the Golden Child fight. However, along with the left hand, Frampton damaged the fifth metacarpal and third carpometacarpal joint in his right hand.
BUSINESS AS USUAL
While unfortunate, and bothersome, Carl Frampton is not all down in the dumps over the injuries. The former two-division champion has all intentions on staging a strong year of performance in 2020. One of the leading potential opponents for the Irish pugilist is WBO world super featherweight Jamel “Sempi-Fi” Herring (21-2, 10 KO’s).
Herring was present for the McCreary bout and even spoke with Frampton on-air about a potential match. Semper-Fi has also talked about unifying with WBC world super featherweight champion Miguel “El Alacran” Berchelt (37-1, 33 KO’s). Yet, seeing as how the stone-fisted Berchelt has recently been ravaging his competition, it’d probably be better for Herring to go the Frampton route. Time will tell how it all plays out!
