Tyson Fury Hints At Retirement!

Tyson “Gypsy King” Fury (30-0-1, 21KO) is on top of the boxing world! However his father, John, wants him to hang up his gloves! From the looks of it, the Gypsy King is ready to acquiesce to such a request and that is not at all surprising.

Fury has had an illustrious career — one that could have been more storied had it not been derailed by a nearly three-year hiatus. At that time, it seemed as if the boxing world had seen the last of him, who had gotten so out of shape that a return look impossible.

But Fury worked himself back into fighting shape, and he was back in the ring in June 2018. His second act in boxing has no doubt been impressive. The Gypsy King began his ascent back to relevance by beating Sefer Seferi (24-3-1, 22KO) and Francesco Pianeta (35-5-1, 21KO). Then, he battled WBC champion Deontay Wilder (42-1-1, 41KO) to an exciting and disputed draw.

That set up a much-anticipated rematch, which Fury sealed by outlasting Tom Schwarz (26-1, 18KO) and Otto Wallin (20-1, 13KO).

His most recent match has cemented his reputation as one of the best. Many predicted Fury-Wilder 2 would be a close encounter with Bwin Sports believing the UK heavyweight would have the advantage the longer the fight went on.

However, the match didn’t go as expected with The Gypsy King dominating Wilder right from the get-go. With Wilder on the back foot from the second round on-wards, the end came in the 7th round when Wilder’s corner mercifully threw in the towel.

With the victory, Fury established himself as the king in boxing’s most high-profile division. As such, the time is right for the champ to bid the sport good-bye. He is already 31, and retiring now means he’ll do so while on top.

Although, he wants to end his career on his own terms and has recently laid out his grand plan: fight twice more then transition into training young boxers. Fury said during his recent appearance on the British show This Morning:

“Yes, I’ve got two more fights left, and then we’re really thinking about what we’re going to do from there!”

The first of those fights is likely a trilogy against Wilder this summer as the American has already invoked his rematch clause. It would be a huge fight for Fury, one that will no doubt cement his legacy as one of the heavyweight division’s best. That third fight could potentially be more lucrative than the first two which means Fury will probably earn another massive paycheck.

Then, there is that final fight, which Fury hopes will be against compatriot Anthony Joshua (23-1, 21KO). The ex-Olympian is the unified WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO champion, and is considered one of the division’s top talent.

An all-British mega-fight versus Joshua would be the perfect send-off for the Gypsy King. That means Fury will possibly hang up his gloves sometime in 2021, just as his contracts with Top Rank and ESPN are finished.
