Devin Haney Not Committed to Immediate George Kambosos Rematch!

On June 5, Devin “The Dream” Haney (28-0, 15KOs) traveled to enemy territory and put on a dominant performance as he outclassed former unified 135-pound “Ferocious” George Kambosos (20-1, 10KOs) in his home country of Australia to become the undisputed champion. As most know by now, Kambosos had a rematch clause put into the contract in the event that he lost. After his defeat to The Dream, the Australian didn’t wait long after their fight to exercise his right to face Haney again.

NOT SO FAST!

However, if you listen to Haney, there’s no guarantee that he’ll take on Kambosos in an immediate rematch. Speaking to FightHype, Haney stated that while it was possible that he and Kambosos ran it back, he and his team are weighing options for his next fight.

“We’ve just got to see what’s next. We don’t know, we’re just weighing our options. Possibly, possibly not. We’ve just got to see what makes the most sense for me and my team, and that’s what’s next. But in October I will be fighting, but we don’t know who yet. “

Obviously this seems to be pandering going on from Team Haney. After the one-sided nature of the bout, most fans would simply like to see both men go their separate ways. However, a contract is legally binding, and if Haney wants to keep his belts, he must honor the contract he signed. Moreover, negotiations could be taking place with Kambosos for The Dream to face someone else in October and then head into a rematch in 2023.

With three-division champion Vasyl Lomachenko targeting a return to the ring in October, the possibility of Haney facing him is one to consider. As always, 3Kings Boxing will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
