Jamel Herring sends Shakur Stevenson a message!

Former WBO Featherweight champion Shakur “Fearless” Stevenson (16-0, 8KOs) dominated overmatched opponent Jeremia Nakathila (21-2, 17KOs) for twelve rounds. However, while the performance earned a unanimous decision win, it was rather lackluster. A very interested spectator was in attendance in WBO Junior Lightweight champion Jamel “Semper Fi” Herring (23-2, 11KOs).

Both Herring and Stevenson are on a collision course to fight in the fall. Both men have traded friendly and not so friendly verbal attacks against one another in the recent months. Stevenson has proclaimed an easy victory if the two fighters ever lock horns. Meanwhile Semper Fi has been diplomatic yet confident that he will be the victor if the two ever fight.

HERRING SENDS STEVENSON A MESSAGE!

Immediately after the conclusion of the fight between Stevenson and Nakathila, Herring was asked for his thoughts. While he congratulated the Jersey native on the victory, he also warned him a fight their match-up would he totally different.

“Shakur did what he had to do. I know everyone wants that fight, but I’m not coming like Frankenstein with heavy feet in the ring. But congrats to him.”

It is clear that Herring was not impressed with the foot movement, or lack there of, from Nakathila. He failed to get anything going offensively and was unable to force the issue. Herring, a smooth, slick boxer, figures to be a much tougher fight for his younger counterpart. While nothing is set in stone in terms of a potential fight between the two, it is clear that Stevenson needs to step his competition up.
