Hovhannisyan Stops Navarro; Itauma, Bakole or Hrgovic Next?
In his first prizefight of the year, rising heavyweight contender Gurgen “Big Gug” Hovhannisyan (10-0, 9 KO’s) stopped Cesar “Cachalu” Navarro (15-4, 13 KO’s) in the fifth round. With the win, the Armenian #8 (WBA) ranked boxer retains his very bright future.
Hovhannisyan, 28, can realistically shoot for duels with #7 (WBA) Martin Bakole (21-2-1, 16 KO’s), #4 (WBA) Filip Hrgovic (19-1, 14 KO’s) or #1 (WBA) Moses Itauma (14-0, 12 KO’s). Bakole has yet to lace up the gloves this year and is in dire need of getting back in the win column. Bakole has not enjoyed a victory since his fifth-round knockout win over Jared Anderson back on August 3, 2024. Presently, Hrgovic already is scheduled to face David Allen on May 16.
Itauma claimed a fifth-round TKO over Jermaine Franklin Jr. earlier in the day. Presuming both men would look to return to action on a similar timeline, their clash could be the most logical.
