IBF Champion Cherneka Johnson Ordered to Face Ellie Scotney Next
Newly crowned EBU European super bantamweight titlist Ellie Scotney (6-0) has a chance to fulfill a dream in a title fight against IBF champion Cherneka “Neekz” Johnson (14-1, 6KO).
Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn took to social media to reveal the IBF has ordered the two women to fight.
Scotney has wanted a title opportunity since winning the vacant WBA Inter-Continental title against Jorgelina Guanini on February 12. Hearn expressed pushing for a fight with the IBF champion next following the Romero post-fight interview. The EBU titlist posted a message to the fans on social media expressing excitement about the news.
A GOOD FIGHT IN THE MAKING
Neekz is no slouch by any stretch of the imagination. Her only defeat has come by the hands of three-divisional title challenger Shannon O’Connell in 2021. In her last outing, she defeated former WBC bantamweight champion Susie Ramadan.
Johnson is a good boxer that likes to work behind an educated jab. She can make adjustments to her offensive and is a decent counterpuncher. Moreover, she showed heart by overcoming adversity with a bad cut above the left eye to win the fight over Ramadan.
Scotney also likes to work behind the jab and has good footwork. She creates space well, keeping the fight at mid-range to land the right hand. Furthermore, she goes to the body early looking to slow down her opponents – a tactic she used to perfection in her victory against Romero.
If the fight can be made, it has the making of a good battle.
