Tim Tszyu Could Be Too Much, Too Soon for Sebastian Fundora

Without question, super welterweight boxer Sebastian “The Towering Inferno” Fundora (20-1-1, 13 KO’s) has got to be happy with his change in fortune. In his last outing, The Towering Inferno was melted in his tracks by a fight-ending trio of punches detonated by his one-time conqueror, Brian Mendoza. Then, due to fighter injury, in his very next bout, Fundora gets penciled into a title shot versus WBO super welterweight champion Tim “The Soul Taker” Tszyu (24-0, 17 KO’s). The vacant WBC title is on the line as well.

The question for many now will become: how will that knockout loss affect Fundora? Will he channel his own inner Roy Jones Jr? In the latter stages of his career, Roy Jones Jr suffered a number of grisly knockouts but would return to fight again with zero hesitation or second guessing. Or, will he go the route of the once richly talented Chad Dawson?

After being stopped by Andre Ward back on September 8, 2012, Chad Dawson would completely unravel as a top talent. Granted, there were a number of variables at play. Yet ultimately, that fight can be used as a marker and sharp turning point. So, which way will Fundora fall?

HEADS OR TAILS?

While it’s true that The Towering Inferno is coming off a loss, he was handily winning the match up to the detrimental swing in action. Until that moment, the native Floridian was largely supplying Mendoza a one-sided, back-alley beating. Two fights prior to Mendoza however, Fundora went life and death in a successful effort versus Erickson Lubin.

Luckily for him, Fundora gets to search for redemption as a challenger in a title fight. So not only does he potentially get back in the win column and prove something to himself, he could walk away with two straps. For these reasons, the tall pressure fighter should come to the ring highly motivated and looking for premium scalps to collect. Yet, in the end, we’ll have to wait for fight night.
