Derrick James Doesn’t See Spence v Crawford Happening

The thrill of seeing the undisputed showdown between unified welterweight champion Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr (28-0, 22KO) and WBO champion Terence “Bud” Crawford (38-0, 29KO has drastically faded. World-renowned trainer Derrick James could care less if the fight happens at this point.

The boxing community received a painful kick in the gut when the undisputed fight was scrapped for its November date. Instead, fans had to settle for Crawford knocking out unknown contender David “Ava” Avanesyan on an unheard-of app called BLK Prime on December 10.

THE TRAINER DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THE FIGHT ANYMORE

During an interview with Fight Hub TV, James was not in the Christmas spirit of spreading good news when asked if the fight will happen.

“I really don’t care, man. You think about this, you get hyped for something, you want something that’s like the kid getting ready for Christmas . . . you got the parents who never put any gifts under the tree. You go downstairs, there are no gifts under the tree. So, like basically, the fight you saw last Saturday snatched all the gifts from under the tree.”

“So, do you even care about Christmas anymore . . . we realize the one time we didn’t get him, we may not get him anymore.”

James is not alone, as many inside the boxing community are no longer talking about the undisputed showdown like before. Spence has not been in the ring since wrestling the WBA title from around the waist of former champion Yordenis Ugas on May 16. Furthermore, he recently had fans worried after news spread of a car accident on December 10. The Texas champion walked away unharmed, but fans were momentarily reminded of that tragic night were he almost lost his life in a major car accident back in 2019.

Although an official announcement has yet to be released, the Truth is rumored to fight former unified champion Keith “One Time” Thurman. Boxing fans are hoping undisputed happens eventually in 2023. However, the boxing world should not hold its breath.
