Keyshawn Davis Casts Doubt Over Frank Martin’s Desire to Fight

When recent fight negotiations between lightweight fighters Frank “The Ghost” Martin (18-0, 12 KO’s) and Shakur Stevenson broke down, Martin walked away being viewed as the problem. In this instance, The Ghost said he was not being paid enough and could not in good consciousness sign the contract. Afterwards, Stevenson would mummify Martin’s name in a verbal cocoon of insults in a series of interviews. In a recent interview, Stevenson’s friend and promotional stablemate, Keyshawn “The Businessman” Davis (9-0, 6 KO’s), shared his belief that Martin is more politician than pugilist.

“You know what I was always saying when people was like ‘when are you going to fight him,’? You know what I always used to say? ‘That man don’t want to fight for real, for real!’ Lo and behold, that Shakur Stevenson situation happened! Oh, so I was right! He really don’t want to fight! These fighters really don’t want to fight!“

WHO WANTS NEXT?!

Ironically, Stevenson himself was fresh off turning down a fight against undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney with the rationale that he was not being paid enough. Yet, when he was “knowing his worth,” he felt that this was a validation for his actions. When Martin attempted essentially the same thing, Fearless and The Businessman felt as if this were cowardice.

Even still, Davis would be open to a clash with Martin. While The Ghost totes twice as many fights, both are still making their bones in the division. To underscore this, Martin is ranked #2 (WBC) #3 (WBA) and #7 (WBO) and Davis stands at #7 (WBA), #8 (WBO), ,#8 (IBF) and #12 (WBC). A win in this theoretical duel would easily be the best victory of the conqueror’s professional career.

Currently, Davis is just days away from his next prizefight versus Nahir Albright on October 14. So, he must first get past this challenge before he can think about anything else. Provided that he does, The Businessman can resume chasing the bigger fights that he wants. And just maybe, The Ghost and Davis will collide sooner rather than later.
