Liam Paro Earns Matchroom Boxing Contract Following American Debut

In 2021, junior welterweight contender Liam “The Prodigy” Paro (22-0, 13ko) fought three times, and each win brought him closer to a world title shot. However, his American debut victory over Puerto Rican fighter Yomar “The Magic” Alamo (20-1-1, 12ko) caught the eyes of Matchroom Boxing.

In 2018, Paro was a 3kingsboxing’s prospect to watch. Paro continued to climb the ranks while increasing the level of opposition. Moreover, the Australian fighter gained lots of experience as a sparring partner to WBC lightweight champion Devin Haney and WBO junior lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson.

This experience came into play in his toughest fight to date against Alamo. Paro overcame adversity by getting up off the canvas early in the fight. He narrowly escaped, winning via a split decision by making the necessary adjustments.

Going into 2022, the IBF and WBO #3 ranked fighter has a title shot within his grasp. The victory over Alamo was important for two reasons; it kept the quest for a world title alive, and Matchroom Boxing signed him under to fight under their umbrella.

READY FOR A WORLD TITLE SHOT

The Australian was excited to share the news with the fans, taking to social media, making it clear that big things are coming in 2022.

“I’m delighted to sign with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing in what is a major move for my career. I’m excited to be a part of their expansion into Australia. But, their global platform also allows me to box in key markets such as US and UK.

“I’m right on the verge of fighting for the world title, and I look forward to bringing more boxing glory back to Australia.”

It is a huge opportunity as Paro’s fights will be seen on DAZN. It offers him major exposure to fans in the boxing community. Fans are waiting for the undisputed champion Josh Taylor and mandatory challenger Jack Catterall showdown on February 26, 2022.  Paro’s signing to Matchroom puts him in a perfect position to fight the winner, or for a vacant title, if the winner moves up afterward.

Eddie Hearn expressed excitement in welcoming the new recruit to the team.
