Teofimo Lopez claps back hard at Devin Haney
If you have been following boxing, then you already know about the long back and forth history between WBC lightweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (25-0, 15ko) and unified champion Teofimo “The Takeover” Lopez (16-0, 12ko).
Social media has hosted some of the fiercest verbal jabs both champions have taken at each other. Furthermore, things have gone into overdrive since Lopez dethroned former unified champion boxer Vasiliy “Hi-tech” Lomachenko (14-2, 10ko) on October 23 in the bubble in Las Vegas.
Moreover, ESPN and the WBC organization declared the Brooklyn native as an undisputed champion. Of course, Haney made it clear that is not true and insists that even his rival knows this.
Hold on there is more!
Let us not forget Lopez has constantly referred to Haney as the “Email Champion”. He has also made it clear that he is the king of the division now.
Haney, quick on the trigger, would refer to his divisional rival as an “asterisk undisputed champion” and has been looking to get his long-time nemesis in the ring. To do this, a statement was needed, and the WBC champion was hoping to make that in a fight with former unified featherweight champion Yuriorkis Gamboa (30-4, 18ko).
Haney was successful in defending his championship. However, the problem is many pundits felt this was not a fight that would do anything for his popularity. Moreover, going the full length of the fight may have lowered his stock and does not put any pressure on his divisional rival into entertaining a fight with him.
LOPEZ MOCKS HANEY
Okay now, this is where it gets good.
Lopez, immediately after watching Haney go twelve rounds dominating the former unified featherweight champion, took to social media with two tweets that will have boxing fans and pundits dying with laughter.
