David Morrell v Aidos Yerbossynuly Set for November 5

3Kings Boxing has learned that David Morrell (7-0, 6 KOs) returns to the ring on November 5 to defend the WBA Regular super middleweight title against Kazakhstani mandatory challenger Aidos Yerbossynuly (16-0, 11). The fight will take place at The Armory in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and will air live on SHOWTIME as part of their ShoBox series.

ON THE RISE

The defending champ ascended the ranks quickly since turning pro in August 2019. In only his third professional fight, the talented southpaw captured the WBA Interim title with a unanimous decision win over Lennox Allen in August 2020. He was elevated to Regular champion status in January 2021. Last time out, the 24-year-old resident of Minneapolis took out Kalvin Henderson in four rounds in June 2022.

Now he faces Yerbossynuly, ranked first by the WBA. The 30-year-old has shown himself to be someone of genuine ability. He earned the mandatory status with a tenth-round stoppage over Lennox Allen in September 2021.

ROAD WARRIOR

Yerbossynuly should have no fear fighting on the champion’s home turf. He’s previously fought in the United States and has also fought in Russia, Australia, and Ukraine during his career. His record shows a fighter who has defeated some decent competition. But Morrell represents a step up in class.

Morrell wants to win and win impressively and move closer to a possible matchup with WBC Interim champ David Benavidez. Yerbossynuly hopes to pull off what many pundits would view as a significant upset.
