Oscar Collazo and Juan Carlos Camacho Dominate the Opposition
In front of a boisterous crowd at the Roberto Clemente Coliseo in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Oscar “El Pupilo” Collazo (8-0, 6 KOs) successfully defended the WBO minimumweight title for the first time with a sixth-round stoppage over Garen Diagan (10-4, 5 KOs).
Collazo was in control from the opening bell. The defending champion used his right jab and steady pressure to push Diagan back and keep him on the defensive. The challenger had no answers to deal with Collazo’s combination-punching.
By round four, Collazo was in full rhythm. He was landing virtually every punch in the book, and you could sense that the end was near.
It was at this point that El Pupilo started to land with some vicious body shots, which further troubled the challenger. He picked up his work-rate and punished Diagan. After the sixth round, Diagan was writhing in pain in his corner and didn’t come out for round seven.
It was a dominant title defense for Collazo. After the fight, he said he was ready to fight anyone at 105.
JUAN CARLOS CAMACHO MAKES QUICK WORK OF JORGE OROZCO
Juan Carlos Camacho (16-1, 8 KOs) had an easy night at the office as he came away with a first-round stoppage over Jorge Orozco (17-4-2, 11 KOs) at the Roberto Clemente Clemente Coliseo in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The body shots were the finishing punches in this contest. With fifty-five seconds remaining in the opening round, a left hook from Camacho sent Orozco crashing to the canvas. From there, Camacho went for the finish. Camacho landed with another left hook to the gut that put Orozco on the canvas for a second time.
There was no getting up for Orozco this time as he was on his side writhing in pain and counted out with twenty-nine seconds to go in round one. Before you could even get comfortable in your seat, this fight was game, set, and match as Camacho ended this one in explosive fashion.
ANGEL ACOSTA TAKES CARE OF BUSINESS AGAINST CARLOS BUITRAGO
Former WBO junior flyweight champion Angel “Tito” Acosta (24-4, 22 KOs) out-boxed and outfought a game Carlos Buitrago (37-10-1, 21 KOs) en route to a ten-round unanimous decision victory (99-91, 99-91, 98-92) at The Roberto Clemente Coliseo in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
It was a rematch of their June 2018 contest, where Acosta dominated and stopped Buitrago in the twelfth and final round. Acosta didn’t get the knockout this time around. However, he controlled Buitrago throughout.
Tito set the tone with his jab and superior handspeed. He continued to use his quickness and boxing skills to land with jabs and power punches to the head and body and pile up the points. Buitrago had his moments when he landed with some nice counterpunches. But Acosta was the far busier fighter and cruised to victory. With the win, Acosta hopes this will be the springboard for one last world title push, this time in the flyweight division.
