Will Jessica Nery Plata Rematch Kim Clavel or Push Towards Undisputed?

In an action-packed light flyweight showdown, Jessica Nery Plata (29-2, 3KO) walked into enemy territory and walked out a unified champion after handing Kim Clavel (16-1, 3KO) her first career-defeat. The judges’ scorecard were 97-93, 96-94, and 96-94. With this fight in the books, the newly crowned unified champion has a few options while pushing towards undisputed, including a tematch with Clavel.

This fight was postponed after Clavel had to pull out due to health issues in 2022. Finally in the ring, it was an incredible fight as both women fought at a furious pace. However, Plata landed the more powerful punches and controlled the majority of the fight by building off the jab and bloodying the face of Clavel.

WHAT IS NEXT FOR THE UNIFIED CHAMPION?

Team Plata can petition the IBF or WBO to fight the number-one ranked contender for the titles that Yokasta Valle vacated. There are two possible fights that would generate nice paydays in Mexico. She can look to face two-time minimumweight champion Anabel Ortiz, or take on the IBF top-rated contender, Tania Enriquez.

A fight with former unified champion Evelyn Bermudez can also peak a lot of interest. However, the smart money is on a rematch with Clavel. The unification fight was a barn burner that had Canadian fans on their feet in a standing ovation.

Plata is sitting comfortably in the driver’s seat as the path to becoming undisputed is within reach.
