Rashidi Ellis And Jaron Ennis Heated Exchange Sets Up Possible Showdown
The welterweight division is about to get a new rivalry featuring Rashidi “Speedy” Ellis (24-0, 15KO) and IBF number one challenger Jaron “Boots” Ennis (29-0, 27KO). In the final press conference, the two welterweights exchanged heated words after the notion of them fighting was introduced during the Gervonta Davis vs Hector Luis Garcia final press conference.
This was a fight boxing pundits were talking about in the past when both fighters were tearing through the division prior to the 2020 pandemic. Boots continued to flourish, picking up the “boogeyman” label with each devastating knockout.
Ellis was inactive due to a contract dispute with Golden Boy Promotions, which plummeted his stock in the rankings. He has since joined forces with Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions.

THE QUESTION THAT KICKED IT OFF
In a previous interview with YSM Sports Media, Ennis’ father/trainer Bozy Ennis revealed that Ellis turned down the fight after being offered double the money.
“I just got the word that they [team Ellis] don’t want to fight us anyway […] I heard somebody offered him double the money.”
Speedy and Boots revisited the declined offer during their exchange after Brian Custer asked about a proposed bout.
Ennis: “Let’s go.”
Ellis: “Everybody knows what I’m on. If they paying, I’m playing. This shit could have been happened, man.”
Ennis: “We already had this. It was supposed to be signed up for this fight.”
Ellis: “You wasn’t paying. You guys were talking about double the price like it was a lot. Like, come on bruh. You could have got it tonight.”
Ennis: “We can go now.”
Fans were eating it up as both fighters continued to bark at each other. Ennis ended things by claiming to have gotten in Ellis’ head.
“He too moody, he too moody. I got him already.”

On January 7, both fighters will be on the undercard of Davis vs Garcia. Ennis is fighting for the IBF interim title against #4 ranked contender Karen Chukhadzhiann. Meanwhile, Ellis is facing IBF’s #9 rated Roiman Villa.
If they are victorious in their upcoming bouts, talks of them fighting will go viral within the boxing community.
