Ray Robinson talks Terence Crawford!
Welterweight contender Ray “The New Ray Robinson” Robinson (24-3-2, 12KOs) is seeking a world title opportunity after back-to-back questionable draws.
Speaking to Curran Bhatia, he spoke specifically on his past with Crawford and a potential fight down the line.
“Yeah 100 percent. I feel as though I just fought Kavaliauskas and the winner was supposed to fight Crawford, whoever won. I feel like it was a draw and no one won and somehow Kavaliauskas still got a shot at the world title. So I feel it’s my time to get a shot at Crawford. I think it actually makes more sense; we got history, it’s more drama. I think people really enjoy that.”
AMATEUR HISTORY!
Robinson beat Crawford back in the amateurs and claims that conflict arose after their bout.
“So I fought him in the nationals, in U.S nationals and whoever wins gets on the U.S boxing team. I wound up beating him 22-18 and that’s it, that’s where it started.”
ON CRAWFORD AND HIS FAMILY TRYING TO FIGHT HIM AFTER THEIR BOUT
“I guess they didn’t like the decision, they felt so that he won. I clearly, I honestly clearly won and they were I guess upset and let their emotions get the best of them. That’s what happened.”
“It was more of just yelling back and forth, I was at the USOEC at the time. So my teammates were yelling at his people, his peoples were yelling at mines. People were trying to break it up so it was crazy.”
Obviously with their past history and a seemingly big fight unavailable for the WBO welterweight champion, Robinson would be a highly intriguing match-up and challenge for Crawford. Robinson currently ranks #14 in the WBC welterweight rankings, but no rank in the other three sanctioning body organizations. It’ll be interesting to see if Crawford elects to face his amateur rival and avenge that loss.
