Regis Prograis Expects Mikey Garcia Fight Announcement Soon!

According to former WBA super lightweight champion Regis “Rougarou” Prograis (26-1, 22 KO’s), he knows who his next opponent will be. The New Orleans native recently took to his social media to announce an impending fight date. In the post, Prograis stated this upcoming prizefight would be against four division champion Mikey Garcia (40-1, 30 KO’s). The news should come as no real surprise considering Prograis and Garicia have been publicly courting a match for some time now.

MUTUAL AGREEMENT

When 3kingsboxing reached out for comment, Prograis stated:

“Although a deal has not been reached, I am confident from on-going conversations this fight will happen!”

Hopefully everything goes smoothly and the bout takes place as indicated. Prograis was last in the ring three months ago laying waste to Ivan Redkach. Sadly, the latter succumbed to theatrics to flop his way out of the fight. While feigning extreme pain over a supposed low-blow, the Ukrainian was carted out of the ring on a stretcher. Problem was, replays of the exchange revealed that no low-blow ever landed, just a clean body shot.

Now Rougarou, who is ranked #3 (WBC), #5 (WBA) and #7 (WBO) at super lightweight is looking for his next tour of duty.

As for Garcia it’s been a bit longer since the Californian has laced up for a professional contest. It was roughly fifteen months ago, back in February of 2020, when Garcia claimed his UD win over Jessie Vargas. The Vargas dust-up was his first fight since suffering the first professional loss at the hands of unified welterweight champ Errol Spence Jr. Garcia was in mild talks to face living-legend Manny Pacquiao, but that opportunity has since gone to Spence.

Despite the time off, however, the four division champ is ranked #3 (WBO) and #3 (WBC) at welterweight.

Considering how adamant Prograis is about remaining at super lightweight, it’s most likely this is the division where they will compete. Yet, as more details emerge 3kingsboxing.com will be sure to report!
