Oscar Rivas Faces A Stiff Return Test Against Efe Ajagba

On January 14, heavyweight Oscar “Kaboom” Rivas (28-1, 19 KO’s) will return to action in the belly of the Turning Stone Resort & Casino. There he will face the challenge of Efe Ajagba (16-1, 13 KO’s). When Rivas does so, he will be snapping roughly thirteen months of inactivity. In his last bout, Kaboom fought Ryan Rozicki for the WBC’s cockamamy bridgerweight title. After winning the newly created trinket, Rivas would attempt a number of fights, but none that materialized into an actual contest.

Unfortunately for fans of the 2008 Olympian, this is not his first stretch of inactivity. Along with 2022, the Colombian sat out for the entirety of 2020. That year, buffing the pine was even more glaring since his last bout of 2019 was a unanimous decision loss at the hands of Dillian Whyte. Therefore, many will no doubt wonder out loud: how serious, or focused, on the sport does Kaboom remains at this point?

Truthfully speaking, both Rivas and Ajagba are still searching for their own personal signature wins in the division. Like his Colombian adversary, Ajagba has been saddled with one professional loss by Frank Sanchez back on October 9, 2021. He followed that defeat with a two-round destruction of little known Jozsef Daramos. Now, Ajagba hopes that a thrilling and commanding win over Rivas will propel him into the top fifteen of any of the major sanctioning bodies. While it remains a mystery who will prevail in this upcoming duel, there is no doubt that a loss would be crushing for either man. So, let’s see which man is hungrier and more skillful come January 14!
