Newly crowned WBC interim lightweight champion Ryan “KingRy” Garcia (21-0, 18KOs) finally stepped up his competition taking on multi-time world title challenger Luke “Cool Hands” Campbell (20-4, 16KOs). While he got the stoppage in the seventh round, the win did not come with a lack of adversity. In the second, the veteran Campbell landed a beautiful left hook that floored the rising contender!

To his credit, Garcia handled himself like a true professional, showing composure and focus as the fight would go on. While many have given him credit for showing resilience and grit, for one of his past rivals and possible future adversaries, Rolando Romero (12-0, 10KOs) felt a different outcome would have happened if it were him that landed that left hook instead of Campbell.

Taking to his Instagram, the WBA interim lightweight champion Romero said the following:

“Let’s just say this, he wouldn’t have got up from a Rolly Left.”

He also put Garcia’s head on the body of a person playing UNO with a card saying “fight Rolly or Draw 25.”

FUTURE SHOWDOWN?!

These two young fighters sparred a few years back. In the session, it appeared that Rolly may have gotten the better of his rival. Garcia and many others would argue that Rolly took the sparring session way too serious. That all led to a back and forth through the media.

Currently, both men hold interim titles, so a fight between the two makes a ton of sense. However, Garcia has made it clear that he wants Gervonta Davis (24-0, 23KOs) next, or Haney, for whom he is now the mandatory for.

Romero is coming off of a fight where many felt he clearly lost to Jackson Marinez (19-1, 7KOs) back in August of 2020. His next scheduled fight is set for January 23 against Justin Paldo (14-1, 7KOs). He will need a better showing to get the interest of the bigger names in his division.
