Is Dmitry Bivol v Gilberto Ramirez Materializing Behind the Scenes?
Former WBO super middleweight champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (44-0, 30KO) is eager to get his shot at a championship in the light heavyweight division. He may not have to wait much longer as the WBA could be on the verge of ordering him to fight WBA Super champion Dmitry Bivol (20-0, 11KO).
It is not the first time these two fighters have crossed paths. In 2021, Ramirez was on the hunt for a fight with Bivol. He was thrown for a loop when the WBA champion claimed that he turned down the fight. However, in an interview with 3Kings Boxing on the Prodigy Of Boxing Talk, Ramirez vigorously disputed receiving a contract while implying that they sent a contract team Bivol.
PERFECT TIMING TO ORDER THE FIGHT
Bivol stunned the boxing world in his most recent match. He successfully defended the title by defeating undisputed super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. Despite having a rematch clause, Alvarez, for the moment, will proceed with the Gennady Golovkin trilogy.
It is believed that, after the trilogy, perhaps Canelo will revisit the rematch with Bivol. Furthermore, unified champion Artur Beterbiev, after strong-arming the WBO belt from Joe Smith Jr, will more than likely fight WBO mandatory challenger Anthony Yarde.
Equally important, Ramirez easily defeated Dominic Boesel in a title eliminator, grabbing the top spot back on May 14. The fight for undisputed is on hold at the moment and Bivol is without a dance partner. This presents the perfect opportunity for the WBA to order the two men to face each other. Ramirez is patiently waiting and staying ready to see what is going to happen.
As of this writing, the WBA has not made any announcement. However, fans should not be surprised if this changes in the coming weeks.
3Kings Boxing will continue to monitor this situation and provide any future updates.
