Seniesa Estrada Threatens to Give Rival Marlen Esparza Her Next Loss!
On the undercard of Floyd Schofield – Haskell Rhodes, unified women’s flyweight champion Marlen Esparza (14-1, 1 KOs) toughed out a contestable majority decision win over WBO champion Gabriela Celeste Alaniz in a women’s flyweight unification contest. With the victory, Esparza now has three world flyweight belts in her clutches. But despite her achievements, a name that still hovers over Esparza’s is rival and two-division world champion, Seniesa “Super Bad” Estrada (24-0, 9 KOs).
THE BITTERNESS CONTINUES
In November 2019, Estrada defeated Esparza by a ninth-round technical decision when Esparza suffered a severe cut from an accidental headbutt. Both ladies have moved on to have more than their share of success. Esparza is a unified champion at 112. Estrada won a world title at 108 and is the current unified champion at 105.
Following the victory over Alaniz, the flyweight champion said that she desperately wants a rematch with Estrada. Upon hearing about what Esparza had to say, Super Bad posted the following on social media:
At one time, both ladies fought under the banner of Golden Boy Promotions. But after a falling out with Golden Boy, Estrada signed with Top Rank in July 2022. Next up for Super Bad is a defense of the unified minimumweight titles against former IBF flyweight champion Leonela Paola Yudica on July 28. If Estrada were to defeat Yudica, she would be open to fight anyone from 105 -112.
Fans would love to see Esparza – Estrada II. Are Golden Boy and Top Rank willing to work with each other for the betterment of their fighters? Obstacles and promotional differences need to be settled and ironed out if this rematch is to ever happen.
