Super Lightweight Double Header W/ Prograis & Postol Likely For March 9th

Regis Prograis vs Viktor Postol and Ivan Baranchyk vs Anthony Yigit

3KingsBoxing.com has learned that a Showtime card for March 9th will feature two high stakes bouts in the super lightweight division. According to our sources Regis Prograis vs Viktor Postol and Ivan Baranchyk vs Anthony Yigit are likely to be announced soon.

Prograis vs Postol was originally ordered by the WBC back in October but rumors just recently started circulating that a deal was close. This bout is expected to be for the WBC interim title. The Baranchyk/Yigit fight however is unexpected. The IBF previously ordered an elimination bout for Baranchyk to face Hitoki Okada but the fight never came to fruition.

Prograis, 20-0 17KO, is considered one of the better prospects in the sport by most and someone to be reckoned with at 140lbs. He last fought in June when he stopped the previously undefeated Joel Diaz Jr in the second round.

Postol, 29-1 12KO, most recently beat Jamshidbek Najmiddinov, an undefeated prospect at the time, by UD back in September. Postol was knocked down in the fight, in which he was returning from over a year layoff after suffering his lone defeat to Terence Crawford in July 2016.

This is a great fight at the right time for both guys in my opinion as Prograis tries to continue his rise through the division and Postol attempts to return to his championship form.

Baranchyk vs Yigit is expected to be a final eliminator for the right to face the winner of the upcoming IBF super lightweight title fight between the champion Sergey Lipinets and WBC lightweight champion Mikey Garcia. Both fighter’s are undefeated and would be the main event on just about any other Friday night card all year.

While all the network buzz for years has been about HBO, Showtime is quietly putting together a solid first quarter of 2018. In this old scribes opinion the old number one in HBO is currently the third best network in boxing because Showtime and Disney (ESPN parent company) have upped the ante for sure.
