Katie Taylor To Headline Women’s Boxing Triple-Header
Matchroom Boxing has announced on November 14, they will promote a special women’s tripleheader that will be headlined by Undisputed Women’s Lightweight World champion Katie Taylor (16-0, 6 KOs). She will defend her titles against WBA mandatory contender Miriam Gutierrez (13-0, 5 KOs). This special card will air live on DAZN and Sky Sports.
Taylor’s last fight was a highly satisfactory rematch win over Delfine Persoon (44-3, 18 KOs) on August 22. This will be a pretty quick return to the ring for for the 34-year-old from Bray, Ireland. However, she views it as a positive.
“It’s been a pretty quick turnaround from my last fight but I’m always looking towards the next challenge and I wanted to fight again before the end of the year. The pandemic has obviously made it a very uncertain time in terms of scheduling fights, so I’m really excited to have a date to focus on.
I’m expecting a very tough fight against an undefeated challenger, but I’ve been back in training camp in the US for the past couple of weeks and I’m looking forward to successfully defending my titles on November 14.”
Gutierrez won the WBA “Interim” world title in November 2019 in her home country of Spain. The 37-year-old from Madrid knows she is in for a tough fight, but looks forward to the challenge.
“I am very happy, eager, and excited. I am preparing myself 100% for this fight with Katie. This is the great challenge that I have pursued in my sports career to be able to fight for the undisputed crown.”
