Tevin Farmer is now a promotional free agent
Former IBF junior lightweight champion Tevin “American Idol” Farmer (30-5-1, 6KOs) has not fought since losing his title to Joseph Diaz (31-1-1, 15KOs) on January 30, 2020. He has announced that he is now a promotional free agent.
After signing a co-promotional deal with Eddie Hearn and Lou DiBella, he would go on to have major success winning his first world title, easily defeating Billy Dib to win the IBF title. He would then proceed to make four consecutive title defenses. Now a free agent, Farmer will have some appeal to promotional companies looking to bring a former champion under their umbrella.
A WEALTH OF OPTIONS
With his plans currently to stay at junior lightweight, he will have plenty of options. A move to Top Rank would be the most ideal considering WBC Junior Lightweight champion Oscar Valdez and WBO champion Jamel Herring being with Top Rank. Also, former WBO Featherweight champion Shakur Stevenson is now a top contender in the weight class and also with the promotional company.
Finding a way to stay with DAZN would be potentially beneficial as the likes of Devin Haney, Ryan Garcia, Jorge Linares and Javier Fortuna all currently fight on the platform. Although, a move to lightweight would likely be required.
Regardless of what he decides to do, it is clear there will not be a lack of options for him. It will be interesting to see who he steps in the ring with once he does return. He is currently ranked number eight in the IBF and number seven in the WBC.
