How Long Will Russian Boxer Pavel Silyagin Stay an Unknown Quantity?

In 2021, super middleweight Pavel Silyagin (11-0, 5KO) was on 3Kings Boxing’s radar as a prospect to watch. The 29-year-old Russian has maintained his undefeated record while continuing to outbox opponents. On November 19, he will be in action in his home country against Abraham Gabriel Buonarrigo (11-3, 9KO).

Many inside the boxing community have not heard of Silyagin, which is due to his lack of exposure from never having fought abroad. He has only fought in Russia, and despite being the WBC Silver titlist, there is no buzz around him. Yet, Silyagin has continued to work his way up the rankings, currently holding the #3 slot with the WBC.

In every fight, that deep amateur pedigree shows. Silyagin pitched a shutout against Abdallah Paziwapazi in 2021. His next three outings resulted in lopsided victories, with one being a sixth-round stoppage.

SILYAGIN MAY NEED TO TRAVEL

Despite being within an eyeshot of a title opportunity, Silyagin needs to explore making a debut in America or the United Kingdom in order to get fans familiar with him.

He has a few options to choose from. A UK fight with former WBA ‘regular’ champion Rocky Fielding or John Ryder would receive a warm welcome. A fight with Shane Mosley Jr, Jesse Hart, or Daniel Jacobs would add solid creditability for a US showdown.

Whatever course he chooses, Silyagin can ill afford to remain unknown in a division that is one of the most talked about in boxing.
