The Time is Ripe for Eubank Jr. to Face WBO Champ Alimkhanuly
The WBO needs to pull the trigger and order unified middleweight champion Janibek “Qazaq Style” Alimkhanuly (15-0, 10KO) and “Next Gen” Chris Eubank Jr. (33-3, 24KO).
Eubank Jr. has been sitting in the number one spot without any urgency to fight for the title. He grabbed the mandatory position after defeating nemesis Liam “Beefy” Smith in a rematch in September 2023.
Eubank was going to revisit a fight with Conor Benn in December 2023. Yet, that fight doesn’t seem to be happening, as Benn is discussing a potential showdown with multi-divisional champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis.
Meanwhile, the Kazakhstani is without a dance partner. Qazaq Style has emerged as the man of the division after defeating Vincenzo Gualtieri to become a unified champion. With all of the boxing community watching on the big stage under the bright lights, he delivered a statement-making knockout.
LOOKING FOR A FIGHT
Looking to capitalize on the momentum, Alimkhanuly took to social media with a question for his promoter, Top Rank’s Bob Arum.
“Bob, Who’s Next?”
Janibek Alimkhanuly
With desire to pick up the remaining two titles for undisputed, the unified champion took to social media.
The issue with that is WBC champion Jermall Charlo will be facing undisputed super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez on May 4. Next, WBA champion Erislandy Lara is going to be busy defending the title against Michael Zerafa on March 30.
The WBO let Jaime Munguia to do the same thing, and is making the same mistake with Eubank. With no other move to make, the organization must order the Brit to fight for the title. If he declines, then they can move on to the next in line with their rankings.
