Abdullah Mason vs Desmond Lyons Set for Haney vs Lomachenko Undercard
On May 20, the talented lightweight fighter Abdullah Mason (7-0, 6 KO’s) will aim to continue his ascension in the division. For that next duel, his second of the year, Mason will face the challenge of Desmond Lyons on the undercard of Haney versus Lomachenko. If everything goes according to plan, Mason would love to stop Lyons and thereby stretch his current knockout streak to four in a row.
It should come as little surprise that the southpaw from Cleveland, Ohio is making big noise in the professionals. Mason, trained by his father Valiant Mason, is one of five fighting brothers who have passed out black-eyes and bloody noses like snowflakes in December for years. In fact, the quintuplet of bruisers gained so much notoriety that Floyd Mayweather Sr. traveled to Cleveland just to check them out.
BIRDS OF A FEATHER
Outside of his own bloodline, Mason is one of several Ohio fighters that are shining a light on the Midwestern state. At the moment, Mason finds himself the Top Rank stablemate of Dante “Free Smoke” Benjamin, Delante “Tiger” Johnson and Jared “Big Baby” Anderson. In fact, on July 1, heavyweight Jared Anderson will be headlining his first card in Toledo, Ohio when he faces Zhan Kossobutskiy. Granted he is victorious, and sustains no injuries against Lyons, it would not be a great shock to see Mason on that card as well.
While he knows that he has some ways to go before headlining himself, or becoming a world champion, Mason is fully focused on achieving those very goals. In the meantime however, we will have to sit back and watch the young pugilist’s rise in the sport. Yet, if he continues to fight like he has been, it’ll be one fun ride!
